Is Sea Moss Worth the Hype?

Is sea moss actually healthy for you? I dug into the research and there are some clinical reasons why you might want to incorporate it into your diet.

There are loads of minerals found in sea moss, because it is found in the ocean. So it's high in iodine, calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which are all important for things like thyroid health & function, bone health, and immunity. Sea moss also has antiviral, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, which means it'll help to boost the immune system and fight infections. It does contain a property called fucoxanthin, which has been shown to be helpful in fat metabolism. It also contains a prebiotic, carrageenan, which promotes gut health and a diverse microbiome.

With these benefits, of course, come risks. I always recommend starting slow. The risks come with overconsumption, increased iodine (which can throw off your thyroid function), heavy metal contamination, and of course, because of the prebiotics, there can be digestive upsets. It is actually a blood thinner, so you want to be cautious. And finally, just like anything else, some individuals may be allergic to this.
