I work with many people for weight management, and often times, it’s not their first visit to a dietitian when they come to see me. Sometimes they come to see me because of the way that I work, or for new strategies, or just my lifestyle approach. But, what happens is when you’ve been to multiple nutritionists or dietitians, and you’ve been on multiple diets and/or bad diets, you might be looking for a magic bullet.
I had a client who came in who is very well versed in nutrition, During our session, we made some really great recommendations to move the needle for her, and she’s very motivated. At the end of the session, she did say, “are there any more tips and tricks or is there any magic bullet that I can do to lose 10 lbs in a month?” I said to her, “there are no magic bullets. The only magic bullet is consistency. When you’re looking to lose weight, you have to make consistent, good decisions when it comes to your nutrition.”
That can mean: not eating off your kids’ plates, not letting yourself get hungry that you’ll eat whatever’s in front of you, limiting certain foods at certain times so you’re not overeating, watching your alcohol, etc. These are all hard things, so, often, exercise is the first thing that people go to because it’s immediate and you feel that immediate gratification. But, when it comes to nutrition, it is consistency, so the “magic bullet” is showing up and being ready to do the work. It’s not easy, but you’ll get the results you’re looking for when you commit to the process.
