Let’s talk about the scale. As a registered dietitian, I do not require my clients to get on the scale. It is up to them if they’re interested and if it’s something that’s going to help them meet their goals. What I love about the scale is that it holds you accountable; instead of just getting on the scale once a year at your doctor’s appointment and being shocked that you gained five pounds, you can monitor yourself in the day to day. Some people do really well with this technique, some not so much!
If you don’t feel comfortable getting on the scale, then I recommend you find something that can tell you if you’re staying on point (it can be a bra, a shirt, a belt, or a pair of pants, anything you know will be a true way to measure). I never recommend weighing yourself more than once a day, and always recommend weighing yourself at the beginning of the day after you wake up, after you eliminate, and before you consume anything. And if weighing yourself makes you feel uncomfortable, triggered, or scared, then you never need to do it!
