Whether you’re traveling for vacation or business, keeping your diet on point can be extremely difficult. Next time you hit the road, keep these tips in mind and who knows, maybe you’ll even drop a pound or two!
Healthy Traveling Tips:
- Pack a cooler, or at least a snack pack. – When you’re on the road, packing a cooler (if you can) is one of the smartest decisions you could make. This allows you to pack the foods you want and prevent temptation and poor choices.
- Research your terminal. – Don’t relyon the airport for your next meal or snack. Research the terminal you are flying out of (or even landing in) to see what is available. Travel can be unpredictable, and your flight may be delayed. Some terminals have great options whereas others are healthy food deserts. Then what? You are elbow deep into a can of pringles. - Stay away from pastries. – No matter where you are–at a resort, the airport, gas station, etc–pastries are not your friend. They are full of empty calories, won’t keep you full for long, and may cause sugar crashes and further cravings. Find something with protein and veggies instead (i.e. greek yogurt with hummus and veggies, or veggie omelet)
- Room service is allowed. – In fact, room service may keep you from overeating, indulging and temptation as long as you aren’t ordering more than you need.
- Don’t skip meals. – Even if you go overboard at your previous meal, skipping your next meal isn’t what your body needs to get back on track and will likely cause another binge. Aim to eat every 3-4 hours to prevent excessive hunger.
- Always pack snacks. – Before you head out on a long road trip, on your way to the airport, or even for a busy day, this is an essential tip to remember. Being prepared is the first step in preventing diet mishaps and keeping your waistline in check.
